Why It Matters

The Problem BIM PAT Gen Solves

Physical Asset Tagging is one of the most time-consuming and error-prone tasks in BIM handover. Traditional methods require manual data entry, custom label design, and hours of repetitive work — BIM PAT Gen eliminates all of that in seconds, directly from your existing Excel asset register.

⏱️

Before: Hours of Manual Work

Engineers manually copy asset data row by row, design labels one by one, and print tags — a process taking hours or even days per project phase.

⚡

After: Done in Seconds

BIM PAT Gen reads directly from your asset register in Excel and generates thousands of print-ready QR/barcode tags automatically — no design skills, no extra software needed.

Core Features

Everything You Need for PAT Delivery

15mm=57px

QR Size in mm → px

Enter your QR size in millimeters and the tool converts it automatically to pixels — ensuring print-accurate output at any physical tag size.

V2 V40

QR Version V2 → V40

Select from QR Version 2 to V40 with live module count and character capacity display — the tool shows exactly how many characters your UID can hold at the chosen version.

L M Q H

ECC Levels — L / M / Q / H

Choose Error Correction level from L (7%) to H (30%) — compliant with ISO/IEC 18004:2024. Higher ECC ensures tags remain scannable even if damaged or dirty on site.

Saved QR Profiles

Save your QR configurations as named profiles with full naming convention (Name – Size – Version – Modules – ECC). Export and import profiles across projects — no reconfiguration needed.

LINK

3 Generation Modes

QR Image — embedded directly in Excel cells · QR Hyperlink — clickable URL links · Code 128 Barcode — industry-standard barcode, all with custom size and ECC.

SVG PNG JPG

Export: SVG / PNG / JPG / GIF / BMP

Export QR files in SVG (recommended for print), PNG, JPG, GIF, or BMP — named automatically from your Asset ID or Tag Number column and saved to a folder of your choice.

Reads Directly from Asset Register

Works natively inside Microsoft Excel — no export, no copy-paste. Select your source data column and target output column, skips hidden rows and empty cells automatically.

Batch Processing + Stop / Pause / Resume

Process thousands of assets in one run with full Ribbon controls — pause mid-batch, resume exactly where you stopped, or cancel anytime. Real-time progress in Excel status bar.

FM Handover & AIR Compliant

Fulfills Asset Information Requirements (AIR) under ISO 19650 — each tag links a physical asset to its digital record for seamless handover to Facility Management systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

BIM PAT Gen is a Microsoft Excel Add-in (.XLAM) built specifically for Windows (Excel 2016 and above). It is not currently supported on Mac due to VBA limitations on macOS. A web-based version is under development.
QR Image embeds a visual QR code image directly into your Excel cell — ideal for printing on physical tags. QR Hyperlink inserts a clickable URL link encoded as a QR — useful for linking to online asset data sheets or FM systems.
Yes, an internet connection is required for QR Image and Barcode generation as the tool uses a secure API to render the codes. However, once generated, the images are embedded in your Excel file and available offline. QR Hyperlink mode works offline.
There is no hard limit — the tool is designed for mega-project scale. It includes a built-in rate-limit pause every 50 files to ensure API stability. For batches of 2,000+ assets, the Stop/Pause/Resume controls allow you to manage large runs comfortably.
BIM PAT Gen is fully compliant with ISO/IEC 18004:2024 — the international standard for QR code symbology. You can configure Error Correction levels (L/M/Q/H) and the tool validates your UID data against the chosen QR version's character capacity.
Yes — the Saved Profiles feature lets you save any configuration (size, version, ECC, environment) as a named profile. Profiles can be exported and imported across devices or shared with your team.
Yes — BIM PAT Gen V2.0 is completely free to download and use. No credit card required. No tag limits. The tool is provided freely as part of SYNC VDC's non-profit mission to support the BIM community.
